If Ron Popeil Made Moms

You know what today is? Do ya? Come on... guess.
  • 1905 – Wilbur Wright pilots Wright Flyer III in a flight of 24 miles in 39 minutes, a world record that stood until 1908.
  • 1921 – Baseball: The World Series is broadcast on the radio for the first time.
  • 1947 – The first televised White House address is given by U.S. President Harry S. Truman.
  • 1951 – The greatest woman in the world makes her debut in a small Iowa Hospital
  • 1962 – Dr. No, the first in the James Bond film series, is released.
  • 1969 – The first episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus airs on BBC.
  • 1970 – The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is founded.

I might be biased. I doubt it, but I might. In 1951, in a small Iowa hospital, my hero was born. Too sappy for you? Well that's a little something you're just going to have to get over. For those struggling with the math here... today is my mom's 60th birthday. It is also her brother's birthday, but he didn't give birth to me, allow me to be a jackass for most of my childhood and young adulthood, clothe me, feed me, or any of those cool things so this isn't about him.

I've written about Mom before. She's the strength that quietly reminds me that I am good enough and smart enough and able. I am those things because of her. She's raised her own kids and a few more since, and any child she's had a hand in raising will be a better person because she was a part of their life. On top of all that, she slices, dices, and juliennes. She is the Ronco version of Mothers without any of the misleading BS you get with As Seen On TV things.. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE (I'm loving that)!!!!

This is her..

Beautiful, isn't she? Well, you can't have her. She's taken. When I'm done having her be MY mom, which will be NEVER, you can maybe have her for your own. I really don't think that's going to happen though. Besides you don't even know what sort of stuff my mom likes. I do. Plus, I have these other siblings that also happen to think she's pretty freakin' spectacular so you might not want to get your hopes up, okay?

Love you Mom!

PS. Happy birthday Uncle Keith!

Thank you all for the bday messages for my Mom! I'm going to make her read them this weekend and show her the amazing people that frequent this dark world I have here.
